Sticker names get confusing fast. Die-cut, kiss-cut, sheets, transparent, holographic: they describe how a sticker is cut or what it’s printed on, and the right choice depends on what you’re sticking it to and how you’ll hand it out.

Die-cut stickers

The sticker and its backing are cut into the same custom shape, usually following the design with a thin border. They feel premium and are the classic laptop sticker.

Kiss-cut stickers

The blade cuts the sticker layer but not the backing paper. You peel the shape off a backing that’s still square or rectangular. Kiss-cut is easier to peel and protects delicate edges, and it’s how sticker sheets are made.

Sticker sheets

Several stickers on one backing, each kiss-cut. Great for journal and planner users who want lots of small stickers to choose from.

Transparent stickers

Printed on clear material, so the background disappears and only the design shows. They look best on light, plain surfaces (glass, white boxes, light laptops). Strong, dark colours read better than pale ones on clear material.

Holographic stickers

Printed on a reflective, rainbow material that shifts colour in the light. Popular for freebies and packaging when you want people to notice.

Matte vs gloss

Finish is separate from the cut. Gloss is shiny and makes colours look vivid; matte has no shine, which reduces glare and suits minimal or pastel designs. Neither is “better”: choose gloss for bold, colourful artwork and matte for a softer, premium feel. You can ask for either in a sticker printing quote.

Questions to ask before ordering

  • Will the cut follow my design (die-cut or kiss-cut), or is it a standard shape?
  • Does my design need a white border for the cut, or will it be added?
  • Which finishes are available for my design and quantity?
  • Can I see the size before it’s printed?
