Coquette is a soft, romantic, vintage-inspired aesthetic built around bows, ribbons, pearls, lace and pale pink. The word itself is French and originally described a flirtatious person; online it now names a whole look in fashion, room decor, phone wallpapers and stickers.

The coquette look in five motifs

MotifWhy it’s coquette
Bows and ribbonsThe signature detail: satin, layered, often pink
PearlsVintage jewellery feel; bracelets, strings and trims
Hearts and locketsRomance and keepsakes
Cherries and strawberriesA pop of red against the pinks
Ballet and vanity itemsBallet slippers, hand mirrors and perfume bottles

Coquette colour palette

The palette is narrow, which is why coquette stickers look so good together: pale pink, dusty rose, cream, ivory and white, with small accents of cherry red and gold. Avoid neon or saturated blues if you want the look to stay soft.

Coquette sticker ideas

  • Journals: a pearl-and-bow border around a monthly title, or a cherry bow next to a wishlist. See more journal sticker ideas.
  • Laptop lids: one large bow as a centrepiece, smaller pearls and hearts around it. Our laptop sticker ideas cover layout.
  • Phone cases: two or three small stickers: a bow, a heart purse, a strawberry cake.
  • Gift wrapping and cards: a single bow sticker instead of real ribbon.
  • Mirrors and vanity boxes: a vanity-mirror or perfume-bottle sticker fits the theme.

The aesthetics overlap: ballet slippers and strawberries appear in several. What makes something coquette is the bow and the soft, vintage-romantic mood.

How to make a coquette journal spread

  1. Pick a base colour: cream or pale pink pages, or a white page with a pink border.
  2. Title with a bow. Place a bow sticker at one end of your heading.
  3. Add a cluster of three small stickers in one corner: pearls, a heart, a cherry.
  4. Use handwriting, ideally in a thin script, in a dark rose or brown pen instead of black.
  5. Finish with white space. Coquette looks delicate, so resist filling every gap.

Coquette gift ideas with stickers

  • Birthdays: a coquette sticker pack tucked into a card, plus one bow sticker sealing the envelope.
  • Bridesmaids or friends: matching sets of the same bows and hearts.
  • Valentine’s Day: heart lockets, cherries and red-and-pink bows.
  • Teachers and colleagues: a small set of flowers and books in soft colours.

Where the coquette trend came from

The look draws on older romantic styles (Victorian lace, 1950s and 60s girlhood, ballet wardrobes), filtered through fashion, film and social media. Bows became the shorthand: a ribbon in the hair, on a bag strap, or drawn onto a phone case says “coquette” instantly. That’s why bow stickers are such an easy way into the look.
